Excessive Speed Charge:
The hearing of a charge that Sydney Shepperd, taxi-driver, of Neville street Henley Park, drove a taxi-cab at an excessive speed on Unley road Malvern on March 20, was continued before Messrs. E.W. Harrop and L.A. Day in the Traffic Court. The defendant gave evidence that at the time of the accident he was travelling at a speed of from 18 to 20 miles an hour, and that he approached the intersection of Cross roads at a speed of from 20 to 25 miles an hour. The defendant's evidence was confirmed by Douglas William Knill, who was a passenger in the car. Victor Albert Barnes, a Royal Auto mobile Association guide, gave evidence for the defence. The hearing was adjourned until next Friday. Police Prosecutor Crafter prosecuted, and Mr. C.L. Jessop appeared for the defendant.

Reception at Hotel:
A wedding reception held at a City hotel on Saturday night August 25, and which was interrupted by a police raid, resulted in the licensee and eight of the guests being charged in the Adelaide Police Court for breaches of the licensing act. The bride was the daughter of Edward Gilbert Kelly, licensee of the Queen's Head Hotel, Kermode street, North Adelaide, where the reception was held. The charge against the 11 guests was that, not being excepted persons; they were unlawfully present in a bar room of the Queen's Head Hotel at 10.10 p.m. on August 25. Among those charged were the bridegroorn's father and mother, the groomsman, and the official photographer for the evening. Inspector O'Sullivan, who prosecuted, said that the cases before the court were not the usual type associated with offences of drinking on licensed premises after hours. The occasion was a wedding reception to the licensee's daughter, and 50 guests had been invited to the gathering, for which a permit had been granted. When Inspector Duthie and other police officers raided the hotel shortly after 10 p.m. they found the eight people charged in the lighted barroom, the door of which was open. In various parts of the bar were 28 glasses of beer. Douglas William Knill, chemist, of King William road, North Adelaide, who pleaded guilty to the charge, said that the licensee had invited him to the reception to take photographs of the wedding group, in a professional capacity. After taking the photographs he had placed his material and gear behind thy bar counter for safe keeping. He was putting it together prior to leaving when the police arrived. Mr. Clarke, S.M. fined Knill £5, reduced to £1, with 10/ costs. Miss Roma Mitchell appeared for Knill. The bridegroom's father, John Henry Specht. senior motor engineer of Cambridge terrace, Unley, was fined £5 with 10/ costs. His wife, Stella Specht was ordered to pay £1. with 10/ costs, reduced from £5. Similarly fined was Joyce Adeline Battye, married, of Albert street, Prospect. Each fined £5 with 10/ costs were:-Edward Richard Whitington, civil servant of Cresswell Flats, Anzac Highway, Glenelg; Donald Henry Pavlich, fitter, of Lilly street, Port Pirie; Joseph Tom Battye, of Albert street, Prospect (the groomsman); and Winifred May Jamison, married, of Newey road. Mitcham. Two charges against the licensee were adjourned until Tuesday. They were that he had a bar-room door open and supplied liquor at 10.10 p.m. on August 25. Mr. E. Millhouse appeared for Kelly.
