OBITUARY
MR. JAMES O'LOUGHLIN
Mr. James O'Loughlin, an old and highly respected resident of Port Augusta and district, who passed away at the local hospital on August 16, was born at Kapunda in 1858 and spent the greater part of his early life around Hawker where he was engaged in carting with bullock teams on the Birdsvllle track. In 1910 he married Miss Winifred Hughes, at Port Augusta, and shortly afterwards took up farming in Quorn where he remained for some years before coming to Port Augusta. He joined the Commonwealth Railways in 1913 and was employed by the department until he reached the retiring age. Deceased was always interested in horses and at one time raced Sir Patrick when he won the Port Augusta Hurdles in 1892 and paid the record dividend on the tote of £80 for £1. Four children, Susan (Mrs. L. Kittel), Kathleen (Mrs. C. Dunn), and Laurie and Colin O'Loughlin, survive.

James married Winnifred Anne HUGHES [5390] [MRIN: 4478], daughter of Henry Lance HUGHES [5387] and Mary Elizabeth ROBERTSON [5388], on 8 Feb 1910 in All Saints Cathedral, Port Augusta, South Australia. (Winnifred Anne HUGHES [5390] was born on 15 Oct 1880 in Coralbignie, South Australia and died on 30 Jun 1938 in Port Augusta General Cemetery, South Australia.)
