The death occurred somewhat unexpectedly on Wednesday morning of Mr Alfred Harris, storekeeper of Cowell. The late Mr Harris, who was 53 years of age, was born at Burra. 28 years ago he went to Broken Hill and started business on his own account and later conducted stores at Wellington, Mt Pleasant, Narrung and Gladstone. About two years ago he purchased the business of Mr Fred Allen, at Cowell. and was becoming an active member of the town and distric., In July last he was elected Councillor for Township Ward, in tbe District Council of Franklin Harbour. He was also a member of the Order of Knights, Masonic Lodge and the Gladstone Rechabite Lodge. In 1912 be was married to Miss Edna Jean Brook, at Broken Hill, and leaves a widow, two sons and one daughter to mourn their loss, viz, L.A.C. The Areas' Express (Booyoolee, SA : 1877 - 1948) Fri 10 Oct 1941
Death of Mr. Alfred Harris.
Residents and particularly bowlers of the Northern Areas, learned with regret last week of the sudden death at the Cowell District Hospital, of Mr Alfred Harris, formerly of Gladstone. The deceased, who was nearly 60 years of age, conducted a general store at Gladstone for a number of years and about two years ago relinquished the business to enter a similar one at Cowell, which he had successfully conducted until the time of death. During his stay at Gladstone he took a keen interest in local affairs, especially the "Methodist Church and Bowling and Football Clubs. He was one of the keenest bowlers in the Club, and on his best days was unbeatable. He has left a sorrowing widow, two sons and one daughter - Allen, R.A.A.F. (abroad), Jean and Keith, for whom much sympathy is felt by a large circle of friends.
