General Notes:
The Daily News (Perth, WA : 1882 - 1950) Fri 10 Sep 1943 AIF Pioneer In Jap Hands Among the only A.I.F. men to march from Northam to Perth in the first summer of the war, Driver Joseph Sevier has now been officially reported a prisoner of war in Japanese hands. Born in Bristol, England, about 35 years ago, Sevier came out here when he was 17, went to work on a farm. He now has his own farm at Lake Brown, near Mukinbudin. Sevier arrived in the East Indies shortly before Singapore fell, and no news of him was heard until his sister, Mrs D. Bridges, of Claisebrook Road, East Perth, received the official telegram last week. In October, 1941, he married a South Australian girl, left for Darwin five days later. Two brothers and one sister are still living in England, where they are A.K.P. wardens in Bournemouth. All three served in the last war, the brothers in the Army, the sister as a V.A.D. Both brothers in Australia also fought in the last war. One is in the Army again. Mrs Bridges, the sister living In East Perth, drove an ambulance during the last war and worked in a munition factory. 'This time,' she smiled, 'I must be content with being a blood donor and a canteen worker.'
