POLICE COURT-ADELAIDE.
(Continued from yesterday.)
Mary Ann Willet was charged with stealing a quantity of bedclothes, &c., valued at 37s., the property of James Penn, groom, at Bowden, on June 4. Prosecutor said he was a widower, and let one room of his house to a man named Rowe, who had been living with prisoner. He had been missing money lately from his room, and on last Thursday afternoon he missed the articles produced. They were kept in a box. Detective Burchell received the clothes from Mr. Chester, the pawnbroker, who identified the prisoner as the person who had pledged them. Prisoner gave the name of "Mrs. Kingston, Gray-street." When arrested she said, "Rowe left me no money, and that tempted me to do it." The key of prisoner's back door opened Penn's bedroom-door. Prisoner, who elected to be dealt with summarily, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labor.

PENN. - On the 22nd November, at his son's residence, Rundle-street, James Penn, late of Bowden, aged 74 years. A colonist of 33 years.

THE "PRINCESS ROYAL"' EMIGRANT SHIP.
The most important of the arrivals announced in our present impression is that of the fine barque above-named, which has again entered our waters, under the command of Captain Younghusband. Five cabin passengers and 249 free emigrants, under the superintendence of Dr. Chalmers, have arrived in the Princess Royal, and we are truly gratified in being able to add that no death occurred during the voyage, although there was some sickness. Eight ocean children were born on board. We do not hear the best of characters of some of the emigrants; and judging from the following well-authenticated communication, we should say that the Emigration Commissioners or their agents had failed to exercise that discretion they propose to use in the selection of emigrants of good character only.

TO THE EDITORS OF THE ' SOUTH AUSTRALIAN REGISTER.'
Gentlemen - The following facts may possess some public interest. The emigrant vessel Princess Royal, just arrived, has brought to our shores four females who were sent on board by the authorities of an English Workhouse, apparently because they could not be controlled in the establishment. It was found necessary, during the voyage, to keep these women separate from the others by a partition round their sleeping place ; but this they quickly destroyed, and behaved in the grossest manner possible. We are ready and willing to receive multitudes of the starving and suffering millions of Great Britain and Ireland ; but I presume the colonists are not prepared to welcome a selection of the worst inmates of the Workhouses.
My authority for this statement is the best that could he obtained. I enclose the gentleman's name, as well as my own.
