This story should have been told two weeks ago after Tente won the Australian Steeplechase, but I heard it only yesterday. Gordon Bewsher, part-owner and trainer of Tente, was being congratulated by a friend, who remarked "I suppose you used to dream about such a win." "No," replied the trainer, "I couldn't afford to dream. I work as night watchman on one of the wharves for three nights a week."

Gordon married Rosalie Olive HUGHES [3451] [MRIN: 1135], daughter of Marinus Morton HUGHES [170] and Elsie Ruby Rosalie GREGORY [3445], on 12 Jun 1943 in Perth, Western Australia. (Rosalie Olive HUGHES [3451] was born on 14 Feb 1919, died on 14 Jul 1984 and was buried in Bunbury, Western Australia.)
