Obituary:
One by one the pioneer residents of the town are passing away, and we now have to record the demise of Mrs Anna Maria Thompson, wife of Mr James Thompson, of Hornsby Street, which sad event occurred on Saturday last.
The deceased, who was 78 years of age and a native of Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Ireland, had only been ailing for about 10 days, and the cause of death was gastro-enteritis and heart failure. The news of her death will be received with sincere regret, as the deceased lady was highly esteemed for her excellent qualities, and by her death a devoted wife and loving parent will be missed, and much sympathy is felt for the aged husband and family of fire children: Mrs S. Barrie (Footacray); Mrs W. Lavercombe, Messrs Norman and Arthur Thompson (Castlemaine) and Mrs H, Lavercombe (Springvale). Deceased arrived in Vicoria 52 years ago and was married in Melbourne, and for very many years Mr. Thompson conducted a grocery business in Maldon, and was held in high respect for his fair dealing. After leaving Maldon he again started a business with his sons at Castlemame, and a few years ago retired and came to Maldon to reside. The funeral took place to the local cemetery on Monday, and was well attended by sympathising friends. The Rev. W. R. Jones read the buriaI service, and Mr W. Pearce carried out the funeral arrangements.
