School Double
TWO 12-year-old pupils of Grade VII at East Adelaide School, both soldiers' children, have won scholarships to private schools next year. They are lan Brooker, dux of the school, who has gained a three-year scholarship to St. Peter's College, and Valerie Ann Schulz, four years at Walford House. Ian is a son of Cr. and Mrs. Murray Brooker and is keen on cricket. His father was in the 1/10 Battalion. Valerie, who gained a credit in Grade V music last month after only a year's study, is a daughter of Mr. Charles Schulz, a lighthorseman of World War I. Her sisters Pauline and Robin served with the Aamws-Pauline in the islands. Three years ago at East Adelaide, three children obtained bursaries worth £20 a year for three years. They were Wilga Gray, Patricia Bowden, and Douglas Fry, all in Miss G. Colebatch's class. Miss E. Scovell taught Valerie Schulz, and Mr. J. S. Parrington taught lan Brooker. Mr. C. R. Butterworth is the headmaster.
