News (Adelaide) Wednesday 9 August 1950 Damages of £50 given to Husband: A Parkside man who sought £500 damages in a divorce action in the Supreme Court today, was awarded £50 by Mr. Justice Abbott. The judge granted an order nisi for divorce to Cecil Lancelot Cowling, of Young street, Parkside, against Phyllis Mary Cowling, of Manton street, Hindmarsh, for adultery with Harry Downer Gibbs, pastry cook, of Port road, Hindmarsh. Cowling claimed £500 damages from Gibbs. Mrs. Cowling did not defend the action, and Gibbs defended only on the question of damages. "I don't think the wife was much to lose," His Honor commented, fixing damages at £50. Miss R. F. Mitchell, with Mr. G. H. Walters, appeared for Cowling; Mr. C. C. Brebner for Gibbs.
