Redback Bites Man
Third victim of a bite from a red-backed spider within a week was treated at the Royal Perth Hospital today. He was 72-year-old Clement Smart of Jarrahdale Road, Mundijong. As in the two cases treated last Friday, Smart was bitten yesterday while using a lavatory. He reported to a doctor, but no treatment was given. During the night, however, his condition be came worse, and this morning he was taken by St. John ambulance to the hospital. A doctor at Royal Perth Hospital said that there was little treatment that could be prescribed for the bite of a redback spider, beyond giving a sedative. Within half an hour two men were treated at Royal Perth Hospital last Friday for redback spider bites. Both returned to work after treatment.
