NZ Truth , Issue 729, 7 June 1919, Page 6 DOODY'S DOINGS. A Bad Samaritan (From "Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) Having pleaded guilty to the theft of a couple of watches and a chain worth £20, a young man Thaddaeus Edward Doody was brought before Magistrate McCarthy on Friday for sentence. The facts were that Doody and a man named Nathan Williams had been drinking together and- Williams had paid Doody £1 to put him to bed at the Zetland Hotel. It was while earning the "quid" that Doody got away with the "tickers," one of which he pawned for 15s. When first brought before the court, Lawyer Thomas. asked that Doody be given another chance, and said accused's parents had a farm and were willing to employ him. His Worship convicted accused and ordered him to come up for sentence if called upon, on condition that he goes farming, and also refunds the 15/- he received from the pawnbroker.

NZ Truth , Issue 1133, 18 August 1927, Page 9 (From N.Z. Truth's Palmerston North Rep.) The name Thaddus Doody has infinite possibilities for one who feels the lure of the footlights or the fascination of the screen. But names are sometimes misleading, WHEN, on two successive days in Palmerston North, Thaddus Edward Doody stole some fourteen articles, of a total value of £84, embracing such trinkets as emerald rings and ear-rings, as well as; things with which mere man adorns himself, apparently he did not realise that such pursuits do not usually bring prosperity in their train. For recently Doody appeared before Magistrate: J. H. Salmon, in the Palmerston North Police Court and pleaded guilty to four charges of theft. His version of the affair was that he was drunk at the time and did, not realise the seriousness of the offences. He also remarked that he knew nothing of the charge relative to the missing suit and clothing, but that he would nevertheless plead guilty to all four offences. It was brought, to the magistrate's notice that in recent years Doody has had brushes with the law and that he is already serving a sentence of six months imprisonment. He will have even longer to reflect upon the folly of his latest achievements, as a term of three years' reformative detention, to be served at the expiration of his present sentence, was imposed by the bench. Thus does Thaddus Doody disappear behind the scenes;
