My dear Sister
Just a line hoping you are well and got settle in your new home. I am glad to tell you I am feeling some better of times, but very lonely without poor old dad, I miss him more as time goes on. Lottie, Fred and Doris are very kind to me, we are all living together. Lottie has leased her house and front Garden, she still retains the raspberries and greenhouse they make quite a bit off them, of course it means lots of work while they are in, from the 3rd week of June until 3rd week of Sep. Fred grows Flowers Cucumbers and Tomatoes in the G House they supply the Empress Hotel they take five and six crates a day while they are in season and the Grocers take the rest what they don't sell at the door. They have their own Car and have mine. Doris drives mine she is a good girl and looks after me, she promised Dad she would, she has a lovely disposition, she is one of the Cashiers at the Telephone Office with good wages. Dad brought me 1938 April Sedan Plymouth Dark Blue, a lovely car then my birthday May 31st he bought me a beautiful Yellow Singing Canary poor old dear he took such comfort listening to him singing, he is two yrs old he is a beauty. Now dear Sister I had a letter from Arthur dated Dec 24th he had not been very well he suffers from arthritis very much he is staying at a home where Edie is a Nursing Sister. This is his address:

He gets his Board & Room for what work he does around the home and he draws the old age Pension. He told me in his letter he was going to spend Xmas day with Lottie & family and he was going to Nellys for supper and stay for two weeks for a rest, he could not dress himself. This mail I got a letter from his daughter Lottie with a photo of the twins girls they will be 4 yrs old May 14 '39. She told me he was getting very feeble, she had made a birthday cake for his Birthday 79 on Feb 8th he was born 1862 he told me in his letter how he misses his wife he becomes Melancholy, he told me Nells husband, Nick, permanently disabled from his work, she is having quite a time with him. Now I must tell you I had a very nice letter from Lilly Wridgway. Arthur saw one of her sons, he told him about poor old dad, she misses her daughter that was killed very much. Arthur told me in his letter he had not heard from your sister Nelly for a long time, the last letter he had she told him she was going to Staines again, he wrote straight away to the Scotland address hoping it would be forwarded to her if she had shifted, but she had not written him. I hope your weather has improved. On this, Arthur Lane sent me a book of pictures about the Fires, they were dreadful.
Give my love to Ivan and Vera and the baby, it will be nice being all together so near the sea, love to Jessie when is she taking a trip over here, tell her to come over and meet the King and Queen there is going to be great doing here. I think some of the old ducks are getting their dresses out of moth balls already the Hotels are already booked up, they are expecting 100 thousand to come in here from the States, they are Mending Tents, asking Private Houses to take them in, asking People to stock up with food stuffs before as they expect a shortage.
