WEDDING
Former Alice Springs Cleric Officiates
On Saturday February 12, at 4 p.m. the wedding of Geraldine Iris, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Vickers, of Tusmore, to John Cilfford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kennett, of Alice Springs, was celebrated at St. Saviour's, Glen Osmond. The Rev. Percy McD. Smith (late of Alice Springs) officiated. The church was massed with beautiful flowers arranged by friends and relatives of the young couple. A special feature was the cream tulle bow with a small posy of lemon, blue and pink in it, tied to the end of each pew. The bride entered the church on her father's arm, preceded by twin page boys, Robert and Donald Macalister, each carrying a cream satin cushion embroidered with the initials of the bride and groom. She chose a beautifully cut gown of magnolia slipper satin. The bodice and edge of the long fitting sleeves were intricately beaded and the full skirt merged into a circular train. The fine tulle veil was held in place by a coronet of orange blossom, and an heirloom horse shoe brooch, 160 years old, lent by Mrs. Selway, of Monreith was worn over the left ear. A hand spray of frangipani gardenias, tuber roses and gypsophlia was carried. The page boys wore navy trousers and cream blouses with long full sleeves and ruffles around the neck and down the front. Miss Elbe Vickers, sister of the bride was maid of Honour, and Misses Jean Robinson and Joyce McLaren were bridesmaids. This trio of attendants chose frocks of floral georgette in pastel shades of lemon, blue and pink. The fitting bodices were finished with a gatherd frill around the shallow 'V' neckline and one wide tuck emphasised the hipline of the full skirts. The matching pastel picture hats of crinoline and tulle, trimmed with tiny flowers and swathing of tulle under the chin, were designed and made by Miss Jean Robinson. The pastel shades were repeated in their dainty handsprays. The best man was Mr. Jim Kennett and Messrs. Murray and Doug. Bishop were ushers. Crowded Reception After the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Vickers entertained 140 guests at the reception room of the Burnside Town Hall, where pastel shades of gladioli, dahlias, gerberas and hydrangeas were an effective colour-scheme. The bride's mother chose a soft shade of green for her ensemble, with black accessories and upswept hat, trimmed with palest pink flowers, matching her shoulder spray. A beaded jacket suit of sky blue was worn by Mrs. Kennett with smart black hat trimmed with matching flowers. Her shoulder spray was of red roses. The three-tiered cream and gold wedding cake was the centre piece for the bridal table. The base of it was swathed with tulle, in which were arranged individual fresh flowers of white and cream. A small posy of frangipanni and gypsophlia topped the cake in a small crystal vase. Guests were requested to sign their names in an autograph book bound in cream with gold initials on the cover. The toast to the bride and bride groom was proposed by Mr. Bill Bishop, and to the parents by Mr. Ted Mattner. Telegrams were received from interstate and England, with many from Alice Springs. Territory friends who were able to attend were Mr. Jack Clifford, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Kleinig, and Mr. and Mrs. George Hayes. After the reception the guests were invited to view the wedding gifts at the bride's home. The bride farewelled the guests in a frock of wedgewood blue moss crepe with swing skirt and a design of dark blue jewels on the left shoulder and the belt. Her hat was black with blue trimmings and black accessories were chosen. After the honeymoon the young couple will live at Alice Springs.
