. . . Allan joined the army twice, the first time at 16 and his father advised he was underage and then again at 18.
He met his wife while working at the Loveday Internment Camp; they honeymooned in Mt Gambier and lived with inlaws at Loveday whilst they were building their home in Cobdogla. Not long after completing their home they were offered a Soldiers Settlement Block at Loxton. After much deliberation they chose this option and moved to Loxton where they lived in a tin shed (Nissan Hut) on their block until they built a new home. . .
. . . When Allan and Marj moved to Adelaide, Marj completed a secretarial course and was employed as a secretary at the Vehicle Builders Union until she retired. . .
. . . Allan was awarded an Member of the British Empire on the 31/12/1982 for services to Wine Grape Growers and also a Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International for his services to International Student Exchange. Marj was the "good woman behind a good man" typing all his minutes and letters and keeping his records. He also volunteered with a youth centre and DOME after retiring - don't overlook mature expertise - a voluntary employment group helping older people looking for work. . .

Loved father and father-in-law of Chris and Les, Nev and Les, Sandy and Steve, Pam and Peter. Loved Poppa of Bronnie, Kirsty; Ben, Ebony, Todd (deceased), Trent; Mathew Courtney, Geoff; Tamaka, Tom and Jack. Sadly missed. Forever in our hearts. Funeral Notice in Saturday's Advertiser.
PREECE, Allen Douglas - Passed away suddenly on November 19, 1997. Son of the late George and Stella. Brother of Daphne (deceased), Betty, Fay and George. Loving brother will always be remembered by Fay, brother-in-law of Ken, uncle of Sherrei, Peter and families. Aged 73.
