PRESS, VOLUME LXXVIII, ISSUE 23651, 30 MAY 1942 Death Notice: KAVENEY - On May 29, 1942, at Addington, John Vincent, beloved husband of Nellie Kaveney, 36 Dickens street, Addington. (Result of an accident.)
Press, Volume LXXVIII, Issue 23651, 30 May 1942 CYCLIST KILLED COLLISION WITH TRAM Mr John Vincent Kaveney, a married man, of 36 Dickens street, Addington, suffered fatal injuries when he was knocked off his bicycle by a tram at the intersection of Montreal street and Oxford terrace about 8.30 o'clock last evening. An inquest will be opened this afternoon.
Press, Volume LXXVIII, Issue 23698, 24 July1942 INQUESTS HELD John Vincent Kaveney, aged 62, of Dixon street, Addington, collided with a tram in Oxford terrace (near Montreal street) about 8 p.m. on May 29. Arthur Ferguson, a tramway motorman, said that he was travelling towards the city, and slowed down at Montreal street, and while accelerating to 25 m.p.h. (the maximum permitted) saw a cyclist ahead riding in the same direction, on his wrong side. The tram was just about to pass him when the cyclist suddenly swerved to his left in front of it. Witness stopped the tram within a few feet, but it collided with Kaveney. Robert Cross, a passenger in the tram, said he had a clear view of the whole thing and the motorman had done all that was possible. The verdict was given in accordance with the evidence of Dr. Uttley, who said that death was due to head injuries, which the Coroner found to have been received when Kaveney "abruptly turned across the road and was hit by a tram."
John married Ellen QUIGLEY [10731] [MRIN: 4592] on 1 Oct 1913 in Church of the Holy Name, Ashburton, New Zealand. (Ellen QUIGLEY [10731] was born on 24 Oct 1879 in New Zealand and died on 18 Sep 1953 in New Zealand.)
