The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1889 - 1931) View title info Tue 23 May 1911 DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST. Mr. James Hooper, a colonist of over 50 years, died on Sunday at Alfred street, Parkside. He arrived in South Australia with his parents in 1854, and settled at Kangarilla. Later his family went to Meadows South, and afterwards to Sea-view. In 1866, Mr. Hooper married a daughter of the late Mr. Richard Steer, of Kangarilla. The first farming land he took up was at Dalkey, and he remained there for three years, after which he spent a similar period on the land in the hundred of Terowie. Gumbowie was the next scene of his labors, and he remained there until two years ago, when he retired altogether from farming. He left a widow and three sons and two daughters.-Mr. W.
