Letters To The Editor
FOUNDATION OF STATE Celebration of 'The"28th"
To the Editor
Sir - Ethelwyn Meier (11/11/53) made a plea for making December 28 once more a big day at Glenelg, which one might almost call the cradle of SA. As a descendant of the 1836 vintage of pioneers, I should like to add my voice to hers. There are still a few living whose parents came out as little children with their parents in 1836, and of this small band, Mrs. Meier and my uncle, John Lewis Broadbent, of Broadview, happen to be two. Surely we, whose ancestors came out in the first year, and were actually present, at Glenelg on that memorable day should have some say about the celebration of the anniversary day. In our own family there are practically grown up great, great, great-grand children of the original pioneer ancestors, and what is more my mother's paternal grand parents came in 1836, and her maternal grandparents in 1840. There are reasons why I, personally, cannot attend at Glenelg on "the 28th," but my plea is for those who can, and would wish to go. After all it is South Australia's big day, and should be kept as such. Lilian Bradford, Keith road, Blackwood.
