Nantawarra Pioneer
Among the oldest of the pioneers of Nantawarra is Mr. Robert Uppill, who was born at Hindmarsh in 1847 and as a single young man in 1869 selected a clump or mallee overlooking what afterwards was called Nantawarra. In the local hall are enlarged photographs of all pioneers of the district. Mr. Robert Uppill and his wife have lived in the homestead for the past 68 years, during which time they have taken an active interest in local affairs. In 1872 Mr. Uphill married Miss Olivia Plush. There are nine children. George, the eldest, is in Western Australia. Senator O. Uppill is the second son, Ralph, the third son is an active member of the Rhynie District Council, and Roy, the youngest, is president of the Young LCL district committee. There are 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Robert married Olivia PLUSH [3766] [MRIN: 1244], daughter of John Saddington PLUSH [10434] and Emma RADFORD [10435], on 29 Aug 1872 in Res of John Saddington Plush, Angas Park, South Australia. (Olivia PLUSH [3766] died on 26 Dec 1946 in Balaklava, South Australia.)
