Elizabeth Lewis (nee Newman) outlived her husband by 19 years. She was determined to lived to be 100 yrs which she did (as per The Lewis Family of Cherry Gardens by Allan Lewis).
The Register Wednesday 4 Mar 1903 DEATH OF A CENTENARIAN. CHERRY GARDENS, March 2. Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis, widow of the late Mr. Joseph Lewis, died to-day. She had attained the age of 100 years and a day. Mrs. Lewis came to South Australia with her husband in the ship Fairfield, in 1840. They spent six years in Adelaide, and on the Little Para, prior to settling at Cherry Gardens, where they bought land. They engaged in wheat and hay growing, cattle raising, and dairying until about 18 years ago, when Mr. Lewis passed away at the age of 80. Mrs. Lewis, notwithstanding her great age, had a remarkably vivid memory of events, her sight and hearing were unimpaired until a few years since, but her understanding remained good to the last. Until, quite recently she had been able to get about. A fortnight ago signs of breaking up occurred. The children now living are Mrs. Bales, of Alberton; Mrs. James Mildwaters, of Scott's Creek and Messrs. Joseph and Caleb Lewis, of Cherry Gardens.
