Mr. George R. Hughes.
News was received on Saturday by Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Hughes, of Eastwood, of the sudden death from scarlet fever of their only surviving son, Mr. George R. Hughes, at Capetown. The late Mr. Hughes left South Australia in 1896 for Western Australia, where he entered the service of the Government. He went to South Africa in 1901, and accepted service under the late Dr. Jemison, who had pre-ceded him to Capetown. Mr. Hughes met with success in his new sphere of work, and at the time of his death was secretary to the Minister for Lands. He has left a widow and four children. - from: the Observer of Saturday 2 April 1921
