50th Batt. A.I.F., HUGHES H.G. 4497, K. April 2nd, 1917. Det D/B
He came over with me in the reinforcement for the 10th Battalion and was in A Coy, and I knew him well. I did not see him get killed on April 2nd, but I know for certain that he was buried by our own stretcher-bearers. It was at Noreuil and our stretcher-bearers brought him with others back a little way and buried them. JNA. Ref --- Pte Kenworthy. 4506. No. 16 Gen. Hospital, Le Treport. Sept 4th, 1917.

Hughes was buried by a party from the Coy., in the cemetery just outside Norieul with Joyce, Tucker, and Turpin. I was not present at the time, and doubt if a cross was erected over their graves, but quite certain about them being buried there."
