Recorder (Port Pirie, SA : 1919 - 1954) Thu 27 Oct 1938
WEDDING AT ST. PAUL'S
Leane-Heneker
In a gown of cream lace over rich cream satin Gladys, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Heneker, of Senate road, was married last night at St. Paul's Church of England to John Kenneth, elder son of Mrs. E. and the late Mrs. Leane, of Risdon Park. Rev. G. W. Scholefield conducted the ceremony. The choir was in attendance, and Mrs. H. F. Westfield was organist. The bride entered the church with her father. Her gown had a full skirt from which a long train merged, and the bodice in front was trimmed with satin buttons to the waistline. Long sleeves came to a point over the hands and a peaked collar was attractive. A tulle veil, lent by Mrs. E. N. Stevens (sister of bridegroom), was caught to the head with a halo of pleated tulle with sprays of orange blossom on both sides. A cream bouquet with trails was carried. Miss Heneker carried a handkerchief more than 30 years old. Miss Irene Heneker (sister of bride) was the only attendant. She looked charming in a frock of pink lace over satin, the neckline of which was trimmed with pleated tulle and silver sequins. Puff sleeves were slit at the top and trimmed similarly to the neck. A band of tulle was placed round the hem and a pink satin sash completed the frock.
Tricotine Coronet
An Elizabethan coronet of tricotine was chosen by the bridesmaid, and a row of pink flowers toned with the frock. From this a veil of pink tulle fell at the back in two peaks. A bouquet of pink flowers was carried. Mr. Wilfred Leane (brother of the bridegroom) was best man. Mrs. Heneker (bride's mother) was present at the ceremony in terracotta silk marocain which featured a pleated panel down the centre front of the skirt. She chose brown accessories and a shoulder spray. Mrs. Leane wore navy sheer with a black and white coat and matching accessories. The bridegrooms gift to the bridesmaid was a set of fruit spoons and forks. A reception was held at Central Hotel, where the usual toasts were honored. Mr. Scholefield proposed 'The Bride and Bridegroom," to which Mr. Leane responded and thanked the bridesmaid for her practical help. Mr. W. Leane replied. "The Parents" was proposed by Mr. W. Bockelberg, to which Messrs. Heneker and J. Leane responded. A" three-tiered wedding cake' held pride of place on the table.
Journey Interstate
After the breakfast Mr. and Mrs. Leane left by motor for a honeymoon interstate. Mrs. Leane travelled in a deep rust frock of triple georgette, the sleeves of which were alternate bands of net and georgette. Ruching at the shoulders and a spray at the neck finished the frock. Navy accessories were worn. On their return the couple will reside on The Terrace, Risdon Park. Those present at the reception were the bridal party, Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Heneker, Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Heneker. Mr. and Mrs. E. N. Stevens, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Tonkin, Mr. and Mrs. L. Graigie, Mr. and Mrs. W. Bockelberg. Mr. and Mrs. F. Brighton, Mr. and Mrs. C. Neale, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. McLaughlin, Mr. and Mrs. J. Dunn, Capt. and Mrs. W. Cobb, Mesdames Leane, L. Hunt, Misses J. Cottell, G. Knight, and G. J. Byrne, Messrs. Scholefield and G. Tucker, sen.
