MARSHALL Eric Paul Death notice 09SEP1949 Death 39 at Yaralla Military Hospital, Concord, late of Auburn Sydney Morning Herald 10SEP1949
Nepean Times (Penrith) Thursday 22 September 1949 Late E.P. Marshall Mr Eric Paul Marshall, of 34 Carnarvon Street, Auburn, who died in Yaralla Military Hospital, Concord, on 9th Inst, at the age of 39 years, passed through harrowing experiences in the last war as an airman of the R.A.A.F., which broke down his health and was the ultimate cause of his passing at that early age. He was the second youngest son of Mrs. C. E. Marshall, of 191 Stafford Street, Penrith, and of the late Andrew Marshall, and was born at Singleton. In 1942, when engaged in lorry driving in Sydney, deceased enlisted in the R.A.A.F. In 1943 he was in a plane crash at Moresby, and he and others of the crew had a perilous existence in the water for 17 hours. Some perished, and Mr. Marshall was one of 17 who were rescued, but the terrible physical toll taken of him by the ordeal seriously undermined his health. In 1945 he was discharged from the service at Tocumwal. Since then he had been working at the farm of his father-in-law, Mr Jack Andrews, of Bringelly Road. He became suddenly very ill on 6th inst and was admitted to Yaralla Hospital, three days before his death. Such a splendid citizen any district could ill-afford to lose. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. C. E. Marshall, of Penrith, his wife, formerly Florence Andrews, of Riverstone, and children Donald and Kathleen. His brothers and sister are: John (Wollongong), Mavis (Penrith), Robert (Penrith), Edgar (Penrith), and Lewis (Merrylands). Half-sisters are Mrs C. L. Crouch (Merriton, South Australia), Miss A. G. Marshall (Merriton), Mrs A. V. Crouch (Balaclava, S.A.). A half-brother, Mr. Wilfred Milne, of Penrith, who served in the First World War, died in 1937. The funeral took place on 12th inst, when the remains were cremated at Rookwood, service being Methodist. Fragrant tributes were provided by a number of beautiful wreaths.
