Geoff Ryder, well-known Mt. Lawley R.S.L. sub-branch member, and now manager of a bank at Carnamah, has been appointed president of the local R.S.L. At a recent meeting at Carnamah be represented the State Executive, and reports that considerable enthusiasm and interest was shown by those present. A movement has been started at Carnamah to erect a memorial in the town, and it is hoped to have something ready for next Anzac Day. Carnamah, by the way, is one of the towns brought right into the forefront of progressive centres due to soldiers' settlement, its wheat truckings more than once having topped the record; Soldier settlers have done well for themselves and their district.

Country Towns and Districts - Carnamah's Advancement
"Soldiering is Mr. G. K. Ryder's hobby, but managing the Carnamah branch of the Bank of Australasia does not permit of military activities. An old Prince Alfred College boy he came across from the sister State early in life. He served in France with the 28th Battalion, returning with his lieutenancy, and three years ago, not having severed his connection with his old unit, he attained his majority. Mr. Ryder came from Perth to Carnamah 18 months ago. He takes much interest in the community life of the district and is president of the sub-branch of the R.S.L., which has 40 members. He was a delegate to the last R.S.L. State Conference."

OUT AMONG THE PEOPLE
P.A. Collegian's Farewell
Attended yesterday a farewell lunch given by the committee of Prince Alfred Collegians' Association to Mr. Geoffrey Ryder, accountant of the Bank of Australasia, who bas been transferred to the superintendent's office in Melbourne. Mr. Ryder, who was the association president in 1945-6, has been in the bank's service for nearly 40 years, all over Australia and in New Zealand, whence he came to Adelaide eight years ago. He is succeeded by Mr. T. F. Downey, a Sydneysider gravitating from the accountancy of Auckland branch.
Able President Mr John Dunn, who presided, said Mr. Ryder had piloted them through their first postwar Old Boys' Week programme, and during that week, conjointly with David Clarkson, pioneered the unique telephone address to their Melbourne and Sydney branches. He visited those capitals to consolidate their interests, and was in office when the school war memorial fund was launched by a remarkable series of successful events. Since Mr. Ryder was elected to the College Council in 1947 he had contributed much of value to its deliberations. Mr. Ryder, (returning thanks) said he expected to return to Adelaide 3½ years hence and continue his work for the old school. Others present yesterday included Dr. Mervyn Evans (past-president). Messrs. Clarke; and Pearson, MP's, W. Menz (WM of the Old PA Collegians' Masonic Lodge). David Clarkson and Ronald Johnson (Mayor of Campbell town).
