Norseman Times (WA : 1898 - 1920) Tue 13 Aug 1907 Page 2 PEPPERED WITH SLAG. PERTH, Tuesday. Two men Frederick Tilbrook and William Carroll, had a very narrow eacape from death at Fremantle yesterday. It appears that they were employed shortly after 9 o'clock obtaining slag from the Fremantle Smelters, and for that purpose had set a charge of dynamite, but owing to some inexplicable reason the charge prematurely exploded before the men were out of range. Both of them, said an eye-witness, looked as if they had been out with an amateur sportsman, being peppered from head to foot with tiny pieces of slag, resembling duck shot. The wonder is that they were not more seriously injured. Both men received prompt medical treatment, and are progressing satisfactorily. Tilbrook has a fair sized piece of slag embedded in his right hand, and is the greatest sufferer.
Frederick married Rose Julia BALLARD [15727] [MRIN: 5795], daughter of Arthur Athley BALLARD [15731] and Julia Frances FARMER [15732], in 1903 in Cottesloe, Perth, Western Australia. (Rose Julia BALLARD [15727] was born on 14 Jul 1881 in Adelaide, South Australia, died on 7 Oct 1937 in Yorkrakine, Western Australia and was buried on 9 Oct 1937 in Karrakatta Cemetery - Methodist portion, Perth.)
