Pearson Cartwright GEORGE, son of Pearson GEORGE, coachbuilder, and Mary nee CARTWRIGHT, was born in England on 7 February 1810. On 16 June 1840 he married Betsy DAY, then aged 18, in Huntingdonshire. She was the daughter of James DAY, farmer, and Betsy nee OSBORNE.
Pearson and Betsy GEORGE arrived in New Plymouth on 29 December 1857 on board the "William Watson" with their five children.
Pearson GEORGE followed his father's trade of coach builder, and he and his wife were staunch members of the Methodist Church.

The barque William Watson cleared quickly into harbour under cover of the prevailing fog after a lengthy but agreeable passage of 135 days . . . Capt Brown being an old navigator in these seas, came alongside with all the tact of the coaster . . . was under Tiri Tiri (where he picked up the Pilot, busy at work erecting the long looked for and much needed beacon) on Tuesday night.
Taranaki Herald 8 August 1891 OBITUARY. DEATH OF MR. P.C. GEORGE. There passed away from amongst us on Friday evening a very old settler, Mr Pearson Cartwright George, at the mature age of 82 years. The deceased gentleman had been ailing for the last few days. Mr George was an old settler in the district, having come out from England with his wife and family in the ship William Watson, arriving here on December 27th, 1857. He served in the Taranaki Militia during the native war, and bore his share of those troubled days. Since his arrival here the deceased gentleman was a resident of the town. He leaves behind him Mrs George and five children to mourn their loss. The children are Mr J.C. George Mr Jno. George (of Auckland), Mrs Hamblyn, Mrs James Hirst, and Mrs Cannell, wife of Rev. W. Cannell, of Sanson. On June of last year, Mr and Mrs George celebrated their golden wedding. Mr George was very much respected, and the friends of the family sympathise with them in their loss.
