The Muswellbrook Chronicle (NSW 1898-1955) Friday 23 July 1948 DEATH. MR. GEORGE GUNTER. The death occurred at Cremorne recently of Mr. George Gunter, at the age of 80. Deceased was a native of Muswellbrook, and was the son of the late Mr. George Gunter, who, up till his death 35 years ago, had carried on business as gunsmith in premises on the site now occupied by the Bank of Australasia. The business was the first and only one of its kind ever conducted in Muswellbrook. Deceased, who was educated at the Church of England Denominational School under the late Mr. Coles, and later at the old Public School entered the Department of Education, and was in charge of schools in the Upper Hunter, Maitland and Bathurst districts, retiring from the profession about 35 years ago to enter into business at Bathurst. The late Mr. Gunter married twice, his first wife being Miss Louie Murphy, of Wybong, who predeceased him 40 years ago. He leaves a widow (nee Miss Elizabeth Kellett, of Cowra), and five sons and six daughters. One son was killed on active service in France in World War I. Surviving brothers and a sister are Mr. W. Gunter (Thirroul), Mr. S. Gunter (Ashfield), Mr. Roy Gunter (Muswellbrook), and Mrs. Frank Lowe (Mayfield).
