Observer (Adelaide) Saturday 21 July 1928 OBITUARY NOTICES. Mr. Reuben Chapman. Mr. Reuben Chapman, who died at the residence of his son at Highercombe on July 1, was one of the oldest settlers of Paracombe. He was an expert fruit grower and gardener, and a leader in local religious work and community movements. The formation of the Paracombe Church was begun by Mr. Chapman, who gave the block of land on which it was built. He was senior deacon until his death. He was greatly interested in sport, and presented the present recreation ground to the Paracombe people. Mr. Chapman was 71 years of age. He married Miss Sarah Katherine Kingston, of Islington, who died in 1908. Mr. Chapman left five sons, Messrs. N. Chapman (Mount Pleasant). R. Chapman (Narracoorte), E. and A. and D. Chapman (Paracombe and Highercombe), also three daughters, Mrs. Rehn (Mount Gambier), Mrs. H. Johns (Paracombe), and Mrs. A. Dearman (Inglewood). Two sons, Messrs. E. and A. Chapman, served in the Great War. (article includes picture)
