ISAAC POULTON Border Watch (Mt Gambier) Thurs 1 Jul 1948 OBITUARY Mr. Isaac Poulton, who died suddenly at his residence Glencoe East, on Sunday, May 23, at the age of 86 years, was one of the old pioneers, arid the last of the station hands of Glencoe, a district which he left more prosperous than he found it. The late Mr, Poulton was born at 15 Robert Street; Plumstead, Kent, England, in December 1861. As a lad he was employed in Woolwich Arsenal, England. At the age of 18 he came to Australia, and gained his first colonial experience in Queensland and Victoria. He then settled in the South-East, and was employed by Messrs. Leake Bros. and later on Messrs, Riddoch's, Glencoe Station. He was responsible for the presentation of a petition to Parliament which resulted in the introduction of the first working men's blocks, which were then limited to 20 acres per man. On one of these he built his home 50 years ago. On June 30, 1889, Mr. Poulton was married to Miss Caroline Feast, who predeceased him five years ago. Children of the union who are living are George Alfred, Gertrude Irene (Mrs, Anderson), Ida Grace (Mrs. Gay), Adeline Barbara (Mrs. Koch), all of Adelaide; Edward Griffiths, Woodside; and Rex Harold, Glencoe East. One daughter, Olive Maud, is dead, The whereabouts of surviving brothers and sisters are not known. Mr. Poulton was a member of the Church of England, and his funeral took place on May 25. Archdeacon Donald Redding performed the last rites, and Ern James carried out the mortuary arrangements.
