First Prosecution Under Act
Mr. W. Hall, S.M., ordered the first fine under the Highways Act, 1926, in Adelaide Traffic Court this morning. The Act, which came into force in August last year, stipulates that every motor lorry and tractor must have painted on its off side the unladen weight of the vehicle, together with the maximum speed allowed by the Act. Harold Wheaton, of Largs Bay, who pleaded ignorance of the Act, was ordered to pay £1 5/. He admitted having driven along Payneham road on March 19 a motor lorry which did not comply with the regulations of the Act. Carl Stewien, of Semaphore, who admitted a similar offence at Gorge road, Campbelltown, on the same date, was similarly dealt with. Constable J. P. Walsh prosecuted.

Fell 12 Ft. Into Wet Cement
A man who fell 12 ft. from a ladder in a city building yesterday was saved from serious in jury by landing in wet cement. He was Charles Stewien, 39, salesman, of Molesworth street, North Adelaide. He was admitted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with a lacerated forehead, and is progressing satisfactorily. The accident occurred at the premises of Silbert, Sharp and Bishop Ltd., produce merchants. in Grenfell street, City, where tbuilding is in progress.

The dearly beloved husband of Win and loved father of Ron, fond father-in-law of Maureen, dear grandfather to Elizabeth and John, and loved brother-in-law of Maude and Dorothy. Aged 86 years. Carl was a gentle and courageous man who loved his wife and family. He died peacefully. We will all miss him and he will be forever in our hearts.
