Marriage Notes:
Tribune (Melbourne) Saturday 31 January 1914 WEDDING BELLS. McMahon - Gunter. A pretty wedding was celebrated on 27th December at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Hawthorn, by the Rev. Fr. Kelly, when Mr. Nicholas John McMahon, only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. McMahon, of Smeaton, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Nellie, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Gunter, Hawthorn. The bride, who was accompanied by her father, looked charming in a robe of ivory crepe de chine. She wore a tulle veil, surmounted by a wreath of orange blossoms, and carried a spray of marguerites and maiden-hair fern. The bridesmaids were Misses Edith and Lottie Gunter, sisters of the bride. They looked very dainty in frocks of white voile, with crepe de chine hats trimmed with apricot tulle, and carried sprays of flowers. The bridegroom was attended by his cousin, Mr. Peter McNamara, as best man, Mr. W. Gunter acting its groomsman. Music was delightfully rendered by Miss Frances Commons during the ceremony, and as the couple left the church the wedding march was played. After the ceremony the relatives of the bride and bride groom partook of the usual repast at the home of the bride's parents. Many handsome and useful presents were received. Later in the evening Mr. and Mrs. McMahon left for Ballarat, where a short honeymoon was spent, en route for Adelaide, which is to be the home of the happy couple. The bride travelled in a smart tailored grey costume, and wore a black panne velvet hat with a white plume.
