CLARENDON.
[From our own correspondent]
Clarendon. July 19.
Sickness very prevalent amongst us at this time, and death has been busy here within the last week in the removal of two old and highly respected colonists - one Mr. William Sherriff, the other the wife of Mr. Thomas Matthews, of Coromandel Valley. Both were deeply regretted by all who knew them, and to show the respect the neighbours had for them the remains of the former was attended to his last resting-place by 12 vehicles and 70 persons on horseback, and the latter by about 30 couple on foot all supplied with hatbands and gloves, besides a vast number of others who continually swelled the train as it passed to the cemetery in Coromandel Valley.
The cattle disease is still raging, and many are losing some of their best cows as well as having their teams broken up by the loss of their bullocks, which to some of our small farmers, who can only own as many as will make up a team, is a serious thing.
