The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1889 - 1931) Mon 30 Aug 1926 GOLDEN WEDDING. On August 21 the golden wedding was celebrated of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Broadbent formerly of Cherry Gardens, were they resided for over 30 years. Mr. Broadbent was born in his uncles home at Edwardstown and was the eldest son of Mr James Broadbent, of Cherry Gardens, one of the early pioneers who came from England in the Buffalo. At the age of 15 he went to Kadina as an apprentice to his uncle. Mr. Joseph Bails. It was at that time that he met his wife, then Miss Fanny Drew, the fourth daughter of Mr. William Drew of Ridleyton. They were married on August 22, 1876 at the Methodist Church, Port Wallaroo, by the Rev. Mr Wellington. There were 15 children of whom 12 are living - Mrs B J Smith, Salisbury, Victoria; Mr Rowland Edgar Broadbent of Gawler; Mr Harold Gordon Broadbent, of Cowandilla; Mrs Dawson of Kensington Road; Miss J E Broadbent of Kensington Road; Mr Errol L Broadbent of Noarlunga; Mrs Taylor of Clarence Park; Mrs Treudemann of Veith, Mr Leland Keith Broadbent of Cowandilla and Mr Austral Victor Broadbent of Kangarilla. Three sons went to the war, and all were wounded, one losing a leg. He made a necklet for Princess Mary, and presented it to the Prince of Wales when he was in Adelaide, receiving a very nice acknowledgement from the Princess. There are 28 grandchildren and two great-grand- children. Mr. and Mrs. Broadbent received numerous congratulations, and were presented with a wallet of 25 sovereigns from their children and a rug from their relatives. A delicious afternoon tea was served.
