The West Australian (Perth) Tuesday 1 November 1938 POETRY LOVERS MEET. THE Desert Inn was decorated with flowers on Thursday evening when the Poetry Lovers' Association held its monthly meeting. About 40 members and guests were received by the president (Miss Irma Bedwell) and a talk on poetry was given by Mr. Murray Little (chief Inspector of Schools). Individual recitations were given by Misses Margaret Bridge, Miriel Hughes and Bertha Hoffman, and two items were rendered by the verse-speaking group- Misses Howie, Felts, Wardle, Hearn, Richies, Wilkins and Williams. Supper concluded the evening's entertainment.

The West Australian Saturday 12 Apr 1941 Misses Mary Smythe, Dallas Mofflin and Lucy Eddington entertained at a party at the Hotel Adelphi last Saturday in honour of Miss Miriel Hughes prior to her marriage. Tea was served in the green lounge, and a competition added to the interest of the afternoon, during which the guest of honour received many good wishes for her future happiness. The guests included Misses Jess Gray, Ryder Hughes, Marion Mofflin, Mary Hurst, and Eileen Nolan.
