The Daily News (Perth) Tuesday 18 May 1943 Swaine Again A Candidate Frederick Claude Swaine, noted contestant for seats in Parliament and Perth City Council, is one of three who nominated to day for election as a South ward representative on the Perth City Council. Nominations closed at noon. A few minutes later, in the Council Chamber, which had been thrown open to the public Lord Mayor Dr Meagher announced to three people that he had received the following nominations: Andrew Paterson, 4 Thelma Street, West Perth, dining rooms proprietor; Arthur Stanley Pepper, 11 Browne Street, Nedlands, investor and school teacher; Frederick Claude Swaine, 62 St. George's Terrace, Perth, advertising agent and trade consultant. Polling will be conducted on Tuesday, June 1, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Election has been necessitated by the resignation of Mr H. Boas.

An extraordinary election for a representative of the South ward of the Perth City Council conducted yesterday resulted in the return of Mr Andrew Paterson, a well-known city caterer, by an absolute majority of 106 votes. There were 3 candi dates-Messrs Andrew Paterson, Arthur Stanley Pepper and Frederick Claude Swaine. There was a 33 per cent poll and counting of votes began immediately after the closing of the poll at 8 pm. The result of the poll was as follows: Paterson, 318; Pepper, 207; Swaine, 5; informal, 5.
