The West Australian Tuesday 25 January 1927

At the Narrogin Police Court on January 21, a man named James Morgan, alias Astor, alias Taylor, alias Draper, was charged with imposing on several farmers. It appears that Morgan stole a cheque book from the letter box of a farmer named Petchell, of Calbin, and going firstly to Nyabing undertook to buy farms in a most generous manner writing out cheques for thousands of pounds and signing the name of William H. Petchell. None of the cheques were honoured by the bank and the only benefit Morgan appeared to get was free meals and sleeping accommodation from several of the people he imposed upon. The accused was sentenced to six months imprisonment on the charge of being in unlawful possession of a cheque book, and 12 months on the charge of imposition, the sentences to be cumulative. Morgan was arrested six months ago at Dwarda on a similar charge. . . .

bullet  Marriage Notes:

1921 WA Marriage, Reg 37, Williams.

Great South Leader (Pingelly) Friday 19 August 1921
WILLIAMS NOTES:
Williams was en fete on Tuesday 26th, the occasion being the marriage of Miss Ella Bernice, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Hughes, of Lauderdale, to William, fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Petchell, of "Wimmera" Williams.
The church was beautifully decorated with flowers by girl friends of the bride. Miss Myra Hughes acted as bridesmaid for her sister, whilst Mr. Ken Phillis ably assisted the groom as best man. After the church ceremony, which was performed by Rev. Mason, of Narrogin, a reception was held in Kings Hall by parents of bride, when practically all the town residents attended to wish the happy couple a prosperous journey through life. Dancing was indulged in by the young people until an early hour in the morn. The presents were both numerous and costly. The happy couple spent the honeymoon in the metropolis.
