News Wednesday 26 April 1939 MISS PHILLIS BURGESS, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E S. Burgess, of Watson avenue, Rose Park. Her marriage to Mr William Lawton of Sixth avenue, St Peters, will take place at Maughan Church, Franklin street, on Saturday, at 7.15 p.m.
News Saturday 29 April 1939 LAWTON - BURGESS A BILLOWING veil of white tulle will be worn by Miss Phillis Burgess, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Burgess, of Rose Park for her wedding tonight to Mr. William John Lawton. She will be married in Maughan Church, and the Rev. S. Forsyth will officiate. The bridegroom is the second son of Mrs. E. Lawton, of Sixth avenue, St., Peters, and the late Mr. Lawton. The bride, who will be given away by her father, has chosen a gown of fine white crepe satin, with pleated sleeves and a train, and she will carry lilies of the valley. Miss Mary Taylor will be bridesmaid, and Joan Jaensch flower girl. They have gowns of coral and powder blue net over taffeta. Mr. B. A. Lawton will be best man. After the wedding a reception will be held at the home of the bride's parents. The bride's mother will wear a black velvet ensemble, and the bridegroom's mother has chosen navy. A London-tan costume with a fur coat forms the bride's travelling outfit.
