1886 NZ Birth /10307 Cannell Hugh Nelson, Sarah Annie, William (16 Aug 1886)

Occupation: Clerk, NZ Railways, Marton Junction

Waikato Argus, Volume VI, Issue 452, 24 June 1899
ST. PAUL'S SUNDAY SCHOOL, CAMBRIDGE.
A VERY successful entertainment was given in the Gymnasium, adjoining the church, on Wednesday evening, to raise funds for the benefit of the above school. Many of the scholars took part in it in a most creditable manner, which reflected credit on their instructors. The local Orchestral Society assisted to enliven the proceedings, and several ladies lent their aid in various ways to help in sending the entertainment off with eclat. The following was the programme: -Overture, "Enchantment." Orchestra; solo and chorus," There is no Rose Without a Thorn," Vera Garland and scholars; recitation, " Going on an Errand," Freddie Hunter; piano solo, "Inez" Spanish dance, Ivy Nixon; solo aud chorus, "The Tardy Scholar," Nelson Cannell and scholars; violin solo, "Berceuse," Maud Roberts; chorus, "The Cuckoo," scholars; recitation, "The Sick Baby," Elsie Reed; song, "Sleep, Dolly Sleep," Marion Neal; chorus, "The Clock," scholars; piano duet, "Mazotti's March," Mrs Cook and Ella Roberts; song, "God Made the Lillies," Elsie Reed; duet and chorus, " A Stitch in Time," Lottie Craig, Edie Wayman and chorus; "Le Retour March," Orchestra; interval. Valse, "The City by the Sea," Orchestra; song, "The Link Divine," Mrs C. Hunter and violin obligato by Miss Cannell (the gem of the evening); violin solo, Mrs Cooke; vocal duet. "Tell Her I Love Her So," Misses Garland and Cannell; Mr Reid then played the Fairy Bells, but unfortunately they were somewhat out of tune; song, "Her Bright Smile Haunts Me Still," Miss McNeish; quintette, "O Who Will O'er the Downs so Free," glee party; reading, "The Animated Warming Pan," Mr C Roberts; "Melbourne March" Orchestra. The usual votes of thanks to all and sundry who had assisted were proposed by Mr Caley and carried by acclamation, and the proceedings were closed by the singing of the National Anthem.
