SOCIAL AND PERSONAL BY ANNETTE.
Mrs E. Meier, of Partridge street, Glenelg, spent a very happy day on the occasion of her 75th birthday anniversary on February 21, when her family and other relatives tendered her a surprise party. She wore a dainty presentation shoulder spray of carnations and Gypsophila. The party, held in the evening was spent in music and singing and speeches were made, to which Mrs Meier responded in a happy vein. She was the recipient of a beautiful birthday cake made by Mrs. George Meier (a daughter-in-law), a blue and gold writing pencil, and many other gifts, as well as congratulatory messages. After a sumptuous supper was partaken of, "God Save the Queen" and "Auld Lang Syne" concluded the evening. Mrs. Meier is a daughter of the late Mr. Elijah Broadbent, who at the age of five years, came to Australia in the "Buffalo" in 1836, and Mrs. Meier is one of the few children of the 'Buffalo' passengers still living. The Broadbent family settled at Cherry Gardens soon after their arrival. Mrs. Meier spent most of her life at Paskeville.
