Northern Argus Thursday 4 October 1945 Award of D.F.C. to Pilot Officer John H Bails, R.A.A.F. CITATION NOW RECEIVED Following the first public announcement made in this paper last week, here is the citation from the Dept. of Air, Melbourne:- Royal Australian Air Force, Honours and Awards - Distinguished Flying Cross, Pilot Officer John Herbert Bails (47987). Citation:- Pilot Officer Bails has now completed his first tour of operations as Navigator during which many of his sorties have been attacks on heavily defended targets in Germany. On a number of occasions his aircraft has been seriously damaged by anti aircraft fire, and on two missions the return journey was made on three engines. The cool manner in which this Officer has completed his duties has contributed much to the success gained by his crew. Pass away peacefully at Daw House Hospice on June 16, 1995, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Yvonne. Devoted father of Wendy and Pamela. Father-in-law of Kaly and Peter.
