"On December 5, Sam Gunter resigned as Superintendent of Works. He had been in the employment of the municipality since 1912 at a monthly salary of $166 until ill health forced his retirement. Council passed a resolution regretting the necessity of Mr. Gunter's retirement and that his salary for the month of December be $700, and further that a letter of appreciation for his long and faithful service be sent to him signed by all members of Council."

SAMUEL GUNTER CALLED TO REST. Former Municipal Superintendent for Oak Bay Succumbs to brief illness.

Samuel Gunter, formerly superintendent of works and building inspector for Oak Bay, passed away suddenly in the Royal Jubilee Hospital yesterday afternoon, following an illness of only a few days' duration.
Funeral services, to be conducted by Rev. Robert Connell, will be held at Hayward's B.C. Funeral Chapel on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock following which the remains will be conveyed to the Royal Oak Crematorium.
Mr. Gunter was born in London seventy-two years ago, and came out to Canada as a young man, settling first in Winnipeg. Thirty-five years ago he came to Victoria, and for a time was in business as a building contractor, before being engaged by the Oak Bay Council as superintendent and building inspector. In that capacity he served the municipality for twenty-one years, and retired on January 1, 1934. He was a keen amateur gardener, and was a member of the Victoria Horticultural Society. Mr. Gunter is survived by his wife, at the family residence, 189 Beach Drive; one daughter, Mrs. F.T. Rawlins, and one granddaughter, Miss Doris Rawlins, Victoria.
