After Henry died in 1892, Mary Ann went to live with her son, Sam and family in Vancouver, Victoria BC, where she remained for the rest of her life. Mary Ann had travelled little beyond her home in Staines so this was an epic journey for her to make alone.

GUNTER -On February 1, at her son's residence, 1534 Yale Street, Oak Bay, Mary Gunter, wife of the late Henry Gunter, of Middlesex, England. Funeral notice later.

OLD RESIDENT DIES.
Mrs Mary Gunter lived in Oak Bay District for nearly Twenty Years - well known throughout city. Mrs Mary A. Gunter, for nearly twenty years a resident of Victoria passed away yesterday morning at the residence of her son, Mr Samuel Gunter, 1534 Yale Street, where she had lived while in the city. The late Mrs Gunter was a native of Windsor, Middlesex County, England, where she was born 82 years ago. She came out to Canada about 1895, and for some time resided in Winnipeg, her husband having previously died in England. She subsequently came to Victoria to live with her son.
While of a retiring disposition, Mrs Gunter was well known throughout the city, especially in Oak Bay. She was an attendant at St Mary's Church until advancing age intervened. She is survived by, besides her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs S. Gunter, several other children living in other parts of the world, in addition to a number of grandchildren. A son, William, resided at Shawnigan Lake.
