Windsor and Eton Express 9 August 1873 Discovery of the Body of a Child. On Saturday Mr TB Diplock, the coroner for West Middlesex, held an inquest at the Hope on the body of a child, which was founded by a man named Henry Gunter while digging in the garden of a cottage, in the London Road, on Wednesday, 30 July. The 1st witness called was Henry Gunter, who said: I am a bricklayer and live at Staines. On Wednesday the 30th of., I was working digging a hole in the garden of a cottage in the London Road. Between 4 and 5 PM, when I had done down about 23 inches, I came to the top of the box, which I opened, and found that it contained the body of a child. I gave information to the police and brought the body to this house.
The original "In Memoriam" card for Henry Gunter reads: In Loving Memory of Henry Gunter who died February 16th, 1892, in his 77th year. This troublesome head is at rest, Its aching and thinking is o'er; Its quiet immovable breast is heaved by affliction no more.
