Thursday 3 August 1944 Stirling West: — Coming of Age Party— An enjoyable party was tendered Miss Maxine Choat, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Choat, on 10th ult. in the Stirling institute, to mark her 21st birthday. Guests to the number of 160 were received by Mr. and Mrs. Choat and Maxine, and dancing, interspersed with various individual items, was enjoyed to the full by the many guests. With the aid of willing helpers, supper was served, and at this the usual toasts were honored that of the guest of honor being in the hands of Mr. Wilf. Crompton, of Mount Barker, a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Choat and neighbor when they resided at Mount Barker. Maxine responded in a neat little speech, and thanked all who had helped, also those who had brought presents— a varied and beautiful assortment. Mr. C. G. Hill, of Adelaide, proposed the toast of the parents. The cake was cut in the traditional fashion, and further dancing concluded a happy time.
The News (Adelaide) Friday 28 December 1945 Brides Tomorrow: WEARING a 50-year-old net veil, Miss Maxine Choat, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Choat, Stirling West, will marry Signaller Robert Lockett, A.I.F., in Mount Barker Presbyterian Church tomorrow afternoon. HER white satin-backed crepe gown buttons down the back. The bodice is gathered at each side and has a beaded panel in the middle. She will carry a white sheaf. Misses Norma Choat and Jean Trevor will be bridesmaids in white frocks with pink and blue flowered topknots trimmed with tulle. Signaller G. Bowen. A.I.F., will be best man and Mr. R. Choat groomsman. Sig. Lockett is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Lockett, Murray Bridge.
