Research Notes:
The following information on the Bails Family is courtesy of Lance Bails of Warradale South Australia:
Shipping records state that Dorothy, Sarah, John, & Joseph was on a, " List of persons who have been nominated by the purchases of land at Adelaide, for passages to that Colony, who have received Embarkation orders to join the ship "OMEGA" under the regulations published in the Colony on the 6th Jan 1848". This was stated by the secretary of the Colonial Land and Immigration Office, Park St, Westminster, England.
This actually means that someone in the colony who had bought land (George Hall) was requesting workers i.e. our "Bails" and paid two pounds each for the men and one pound each for the women's passage. They would be contracted then to work for him for a certain period of time.
Thomas2 himself was not on the shipping list for the " OMEGA ", and am unable to find him on any other list at this time.
Searching the Birth Records in Sth Aust, came across 2 children born to Thomas Bails, Occupation (Sawyer) and Sarah Davis. Thomas Henry Bails b14/4/1850 at Adelaide and Sarah Ann b30/8/1861at Melrose, it seems that Thomas2 may have been in Australia about 1840/51 as he was not in England for the 1841 or 1851 census. Further investigation found a Sarah Bails aged 77 died 10/9/1895 at Norwood, widow of Thomas Bails deceased husband (Sawyer) of Queenstown, her last address was Sheldon St, Norwood, she was buried at West Terrace Cemetery lease # 4581 Plan 3 Row 26 #72. A search for a Marriage certificate for Thomas2 & Sarah came up with no results. A check for these 2 children in Marriage and Death records has been unsuccessful, maybe they had a name change.(Check Deed poll) The grave lease for Sarah Bails at West Terrace cemetery was taken out by a Sarah Benson on 1st October 1895, indicates her daughter Sarah Ann may have been married to a Benson, checking records in SA found no marriage for her.
Land interests for Thomas2 was Section 443 Lots 136/137/138/139 Port Road Queenstown, He purchased from Edward Stephens lot 138 on 25th April 1850, lot 137 on 8th May 1850, lot 136 on 15th August 1850.
Thomas2 purchased from John Carr 10th March 1860 for 50 pounds Part lot 164 Long St, Queenstown, he then transferred the Part lot, Transfer No 5288, 22nd May 1863 to Rosanna Shields of Queenstown, Spinster.
Transfer No 3156, on 24th March 1862 Thomas2 transferred to James Coombe of Norwood, Builder, Part lot 42 George St, Norwood. (Section 276 Hd of Norwood)
On 12th April 1862 Nathaniel Blencowe, Bowden, Storekeeper, transferred land at Para Wirra lot 1612, Eleven acres to Thomas Bails, transfer No 3242. Thomas2 then transferred the land on 2nd July 1877 to Edmund Hardy & James William Williams, Builders both of Portland Estate. Transfer No 75553.

Headstone:
In April 2006 the Headstone of the 6 Bails family graves site at Cheltenham was removed as the lease had expired, the headstone is now in storage at Enfield Cemetery.( Waiting on decision from Crown Law)
Lance Bails sought permission to relocate the headstone to the Cherry Gardens Uniting Church, being the site of the marriage on 27th June 1861 of John5 Bails and Mary Ann (Lewis) Permission was given by them in June 2006, a suitable spot in the churchyard will be found after Lance meets with the committee.
On 29/7/2008 after hearing from Nalty Memorials they could not find the Headstone at Enfield or any record of it being transferred from Cheltenham, Lance Bails spent 2 hours piecing together the 9 remnants of the damaged headstone he found scattered in the Enfield compound, the stone will be repaired at cost to Adelaide Cemetery Authority, Enfield.
The Headstone was relocated on 2/3/2011 at Cherry Uniting Church, 87 Hicks Hill Road, Cherry Gardens, SA by Lance Bails and Bill & Rae Lang, and installed by Nalty Memorials P/L, Devon Park. Cost to relocate and fix a bronze plaque was $1315.00, some kind donations gratefully received from Family members helped pay for the relocation.
A Rededication service was held on 26th June 2011 at Cherry Gardens Uniting Church at which 46 family members attended, flowers where placed at the Bails headstone and Broadbent graves, Rev Christine Manning officiated.
The Headstone was carved from Carrara Marble and shipped to Sth Aust from Italy as Ships ballast, the base is Grey granite, it was lettered, lead inserted and erected by Fraser & Draysey Memorials.
